FEATURED CASE

From 13 pills a day with Diabetes, BP, Obesity, and severe diarrhea to 1 pill a day, 32 kilo weight-loss, and natural lifestyle at the age of 60 years. Is it possible?

Date 25 Feb 2020

Patient Age: 60

One of my patients visited with a complaint of 1 month long severe diarrhea (5-6 motions per day). After initial diagnosis and medication history, I noticed that she was on regular antibiotics and electrolytes for a almost month. So, first thing I advised her was to stop antibiotics and start probiotics and suggested to revisit me after 2 days. After 24 hours she called me to update that her symptoms have improves but not by much. I advised her to visit me next day. When she visited me I asked her about all her previous treatments, medications, and health problems. She said she was overweight most her life and when she married as teenager her weight was 78 kilos. Then, at the age of 40 years she developed body pain and mild diabetes, gained massive weight, and always felt low mood and low energy. So, she sought medical help and her doctors started conventional treatments. At the time of her visit her was on the following medicines per day:

1. 60 units insulin per day

2. Tablet Metformin

3. Sulfonyl urea

4. SGL2 - Inhibitors

5. DPP4 - Inhibitors

6. Azil Sartan (For diabetes)

7. Amlodipine (For diabetes)

8. Tegretal (For BP)

9. Clonazapam (Anti-depressant)

10. Neproxen (Anti-depressant)

11. Buprionone (Anti-anxiety)

12. Ibuprofen (Pain killer)

13. H2 blocker (just like Pantaprazole Anta acid)

I had no doubt that this heavy medication was the main cause of her severe diarrhea and weight gain. I counselled her that to get over from this heavy medication was to work on her body and mind holistically. I recommended that she go for changes in lifestyle and food habits. I admired her motivation to start over her life.

To investigate and dive deeper, I suggested few medical tests and prepared detailed plan for her day-to-day activities, new food plan, and minimal medication to handle her medical conditions. The immediate results were incredible: her diarrhea came down to 1-2 times daily in within first 2-3 days and she started losing 3-4 kg weight every month.

In December 2020, her body weight came down to 66 kgs (32 kgs lower than that in February 2020). And, from 13 pills a day she came down to 1 pill a day that she needed for mild diabetes.

Now it’s June 2021 and she has maintained the same weight and living a very healthy life with almost no pills.

I believe that in most of such cases, everyone want to live such life but the lack of direction and wrong impression of those gym bodies, unreal supplements, and difficult to maintain diet plans are mis-leading people.  As people have less time today, everyone opts for short cuts that ruin mental and physical health rather than fixing real issues.

I recommend that people should look for doctors who hears them out and understand root cause of ailments rather than putting them on medication straight away.
